Karen Colburn, Executive Director
As Box of Rain's new Executive Director, Karen brings more than 20 years of executive-level experience directing nonprofit programs and helping small nonprofits reach their growth potential. Karen holds an M.A. in Journalism from Ohio State University and a B.A. in Psychology from Miami University of Ohio. As an 20-year resident of Anne Arundel County, Karen has also led public education advocacy efforts. Karen has enjoyed sailing in the Chesapeake Bay with her family for more than 20 years, and understands the power of sailing and Bay activities in making a difference in young peoples' lives. She looks forward to working with our schools, local business, and the community to develop programming that keeps our kids safe, nurtures their self-esteem, builds skills, and steers them toward a bright future.
Meredith Krissoff-Adams, Program Director
An active sailor, coach, and Eastport resident, Meredith embodies Box of Rain’s maritime spirit. She will also complete her Master of Arts in Teaching and Special Education this year and has worked with many Box of Rain and other Title I children through her special education and teaching positions at Annapolis Middle, Central Middle, Georgetown East Elementary, High Roads Academy, Oakwood Elementary, and Tyler Heights Elementary where she will be teaching this year.
As a pioneering member of our Charting Careers team, Meredith facilitated the pilot program at Tyler Heights Elementary and plays a vital role in our school partnerships.
Candace "Candi" Brown, Director, Summer Program
Candace directs Box of Rain's Summer Program and leads many Box of Rain programs throughout the year, including Step It Up Kids, Girls' Club, and Create the Story of You at Woodside Gardens Community Center. Born and raised in the Annapolis/Edgewater area, she worked for the City of Annapolis, Department of Public Works for ten years before she and her husband started their family. They have four very active children. Candace is a teacher at Eastport Elementary.
Jim Harmon, Director, Build a Boat Program
When Jim isn't working with Annapolis youth on building boats, he's producing and directing videos as CEO of the company he's owned for the last 25 years, Harmon-Edison. In addition to his award-winning video work, Jim has taught media production at University of Texas and the Corcoran School. Jim has built a talented team of volunteers who share their boat-building know-how with our kids.

Calyl Robinson, Former Senior Counselor
Calyl is himself a graduate of the Box of Rain program and recently graduated college in South Carolina. For years during the summer, he gave back to the program that made a difference in his life, serving as chief mentor to nearly 40 Box of Rain summer camp kids.
Many of our Junior counselors came up through the Box of Rain program. We tell them that no matter what successes they achieve in life, they'll always look back on their counseling days with Box of Rain as some of their finest work!
Senior counselors in Summer 2017 were Dayshawn Addison, Ben Brown, Tammy Brunemann, Just Kazee, Guy Massey, and Nolan Thomas. Junior counselors were Yamarko Brown, Tyson Caraway, Jody Downs, D'Asia Jones, Joniece Pitts, and Armani Queen.
CHARTING CAREERS TEAM
Renee Sherwood, M.A. Education, Education Director
As Director of the 100 Book Challenge, a Charting Careers partnership project at Woodside Gardens with the Woodside Gardens Community Association and PK Management, Renee built an academic literacy program that is already showing results. As Charting Careers Education Director, Ms. Sherwood now oversees all Charting Careers programs from elementary through high school. One of her top priorities is developing a high school mentorship program to help keep students on track with their success plans. Renee holds a Masters in Education from Towson University and served as a teacher and curriculum developer to low-income students in Baltimore City.

Armani is a long-time Box of Rain participant and summer counselor. In her role as Charting Careers program assistant, she makes sure all parents are fully informed of Box of Rain scheduled activities and details.
