NEWS

  • Box of Rain wins two-year grant totaling $30,000 from The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation. The grant funds a new Education Director position for our Charting Careers Program, and Renee Sherwood steps into the role this month. Congrats, Renee!
  • The high school program is offering some exciting new services this Fall. In partnership with Key School, Director of College Advising Laura Burrell Baxter is bringing together her independent school colleagues, including Kim Coughlin, Co-Director of College Counseling at Severn School, to deliver college advising services to our Charting Careers students.
  • The College of Education at Towson University (TU) will introduce Charting Careers students to the college experience, beginning as early as middle school. Box of Rain students will receive an in-depth college tour in October, courtesy of the College of Education at TU, led by Dr. Molly Mee, Department Chair and Professor of the Department of Secondary and Middle School Education at Towson. Dr. Mee has also agreed to serve on the Charting Careers Advisory Panel, where she will lend her expertise to ensuring that the program optimally prepares students for paths to independence.
  • And in a continuing partnership, First National Bank will develop and facilitate a series of financial literacy workshops beginning this Fall that will both educate and inspire Charting Careers students to establish, maintain, and grow healthy financial habits.

Box of Rain is a 501(c)3 organization that offers year-round programming designed to inspire and encourage Annapolis area youth, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances. Our mentoring focus helps Box of Rain kids build self-esteem, develop life skills, and earn a sense of accomplishment that leads to positive contributions to our community.

Our program has mentored more than 500 kids right here in Annapolis. We work with area school guidance counselors to build participation. The program is free to participants. Many of our kids joined the program as elementary school students and are now working as Box of Rain counselors. Some are now in college. All will tell you that the Box of Rain experience changed their lives.

Box of Rain depends on the generous contributions of area residents and business. We welcome donations and volunteer services, and thank those who have contributed so generously to our success.
